Schumacher Ceramics

Schumacher Ceramics was founded by Bob Schumacher in 1985 in Rancho Cordova. He began making handmade sinks, tile, and pottery . He and his wife Sonya moved to Clarksburg with Sonya's pottery business in 1995. They established a studio gallery there, open to the public on weekends, this also allowed them to showcase other regional artists.

In 2017 the Schumachers moved their studio gallery to Galt, CA. This new format is a smaller gallery which will house the works of Robert and Sonya Schumacher. It is their unique blend of art and function in clay. The front room shows their clay sculpture, the middle room is the pottery room with woodworks by Richard Russel & Kermet Bennet. We also show the pit-fired works of Eric Struck and ceramics by Teiko Sasser. The back room is a showroom of Bob's beautiful hand-thrown sinks and tile.

Bob holds an M.F.A. from Indiana University and B.A. from Hayward State University. He also spent time apprenticing for a sink maker in Seattle before opening his business. Sonya has a B.A. from Humboldt State University in studio ceramics.

Bob currently is part-time faculty for Sacramento City College  and San Joaquin Delta College, and Sonya teaches ceramics at Lodi High School.
